Socialistic Myth

In continuation of my previous two blogs on how the so called socialism can turn against you; here's yet another parable that depicts our so called socialistic justice.

OLD VERSION.....

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in the cold.

MODERN VERSION

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away. Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

NDTV, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?
Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house.
Medha Patkar goes on a fast alongwith other grasshoppers demanding that grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter.
Amnesty International and Koffi Annan criticizes the Indian Government for not upholding the fundamental rights of the grasshopper.
The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance).
Opposition MP's stage a walkout. Left parties call for "Bharat Bandh" in West Bengaland Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry. CPM in Kerala immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among ants and grasshoppers.

Lalu Prasad allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Indian Railway Trains, aptly named as the 'Grasshopper Rath'.
Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the Prevention of Terrorism Against Grasshoppers Act [POTAGA]", with effect from the beginning of the winter.

The ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA and,having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government and handed over to the grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV.

Arundhati Roy calls it "a triumph of justice". Lalu calls it 'Socialistic Justice'. CPM calls it the 'revolutionary resurgence of the downtrodden'
Koffi Annan invites the grasshopper to address the UN General Assembly.

Many years later...
The ant has since migrated to the US and set up a multi billion dollar company in silicon valley.

100s of grasshoppers die of starvation somewhere in India.

So Mr Prime Minister, you want to make sure that you stay on the right course. We are at a stage where the brain drain is on a low and a lot of guys are looking at making a come back to India. You do not want this trend to stop.

I went on a nostalgic trip this weekend as I was talking to some friends of mine and listened to some good old favorites. I was on you tube and was surprised when I saw some cool videos of MIT Manipal, my alma mater. Check out these cool videos.

It certainly bought a few smiles and memories down the path. Here's my advise to u guys who are in college... This is the best days of ur life... Enjoy them.. coz later in life travelling down this memory lane is what soothes ur heart n mind.

Quota - The death knell for meritocracy

The quota system has been a boon for the politicians to capture the vote banks and with UP having a huge number of SC/ST/OBC, this decision might help them prove a point.

Professional education should be run on merit and not on caste, class or economic stature.

Let's look at the objective behind this. If the real objective is to ensure that backward caste needs to get equal opportunity, then they can get into colleges run by the Govt. It need not be the IIT's, IIM's, AIIM's and the REC's.

If the candidate is capable, provide them free education, i don't mind that but keeping a certain percentage reserved for them will not solve the objective.

The objective is not to have a sub standard Dr, engg or a manager. The objective is to provide them equal opportunity to have the education, provided they have the capability.

If they are so desperate to get the IIM title, they can open a IIM-jumhritalaya and only admit candidates of thier choice. We can then see how the institute works and whether or not they get placements.

If India wants to become a world power, then we need to increase the standard of living and provide equal opportunity. This is not by reserving seats for diff caste; it would be by rewarding the capable people and providing incentives for people to improve and display thier capabilties, else we would end up as yet another commie nation run by beaurocracy and red tapism.

We are in a point of time where Indians who had migrated to other countries are coming back or promoting India. We do not want more brain drain.... we want to attract them and let them promote the entreprial spirit.
